Why do drivers often violate motorcyclists' right of way?
- Motorcycles are relatively small and drivers don't see them
- Drivers don't anticipate motorcycles' movements
- The driver's view of the motorcyclist is obstructed, often by the vehicle's blind spots or other vehicles
- The driver is distracted
- Enjoy your ride and make it home safe!

Kuryakyn Rear Oil Panel Accent: Indian Motorcycle Well, I've been looking at this piece of chrome for over a year, trying to decide if I wanted to place it on my 2016 Chieftain. After the Inner Primary Cover was installed, I just had to get the oil panel accent cover a try. I think it was worth the wait. I'm pleased with the quality of the piece. I lucked up and placed the Inner Primary Cover in the correct position, which made the Oil Accent Cover line up perfectly. Time will tell how well the two pieces will survive.

Kuryakyn Inner Primary Cover: Indian Motorcycle I finally decided to purchase the Inner Primary Cover by Kuryakyn. Install is a 1 out of 10 for complexity. However, you do need to make sure you have that piece correctly positioned, and taped down after. It installs with 3m tape. Now I'm debating on purchasing the Kurakyn Rear Oil Panel Accent for my Chieftain.

Vinyl Wrapped Rear Tail Light. I decided to give some vinyl wrapping a try, by wrapping my rear tail light with Vivid's smoke tint. I think it turned out pretty good for the first wrap. Now, I may now wrap the turn signal lights in the front fairing. Check out the forums section for before and after pictures.

Lane Splitting The American Motorcyclist Association endorses lane splitting. According to the University of California, study by Berkeley researchers say that it enhances motorcycle safety. The option can provide an escape route for motorcyclists who would otherwise be trapped of stuck from behind. One of the most dangerous situations for any on-highway motorcyclist is being caught in congested traffic. I get this. The roads I travel on when coming home from work are so congested and cars are trying to cut in between other vehicles. I'm constantly on the look out even more, waiting to be struck by a car trying to cut between me and another vehicle.

Until recently, California was the only legal state. Now Utah is another state that Lane Splitting is legal. The law allows motorcyclist traveling no faster than 15 mph to go between lanes of stopped traffic on roads where the speed limit is 45 mph or less.

Indian's New Bagger Emerging Throughout the Web Spyshots have emerged of a new Indian tourer being tested with a water-cooled engine, fixed fairing and performance focused parts – all firsts for the brand’s touring range.

Based on recent IP filings we believe the bike is called the Raptor and will be a brand new model in Indian’s range, effectively picking up where defunct sister brand Victory left off. Up front is a fixed fairing, clearly aimed at the Harley-Davidson Road Glide.

I'm 6'0" and I don't stand flat footed, while sitting on this bike. It looks and sounds solid. You can hear the power deep, once you crack the throttle. What a great looking bike.

Arlen Ness Monster Sucker
The King of Choppers does it again. From the moto-dynasty that unleashed the Big Sucker upon the world, this time they went back to the lab and created a monster. The inverted Monster Sucker 90 degree style filter features a built-in inverted top to pull air not only from all sides of the filter but also the front, which results in more performance gaining airflow. Each filter is constructed from synthetic material that is water resistant, which in most cases eliminates the need for a rain sock. Filters are re-usable and do not require oil; just rinse and re-use.

Motorcycle Mobile Apps.
The Fall weather riding is upon us, here in Georgia. Below are a few motorcycle mobile apps that you may enjoy using while on your motorcycle ride.
Waze: Waze is the world’s largest community based traffic and navigation app, and it shares traffic, road condition, and route info in real time to give you the most efficient way to get to your destination. It is a commuting app that was developed by and for drivers, but the ecosystem is so large, and the data so current, motorcycle commuters are sure to benefit from it as well.
Best Biking Roads: Best Biking Roads is the world’s largest motorcycle touring resource, built out of the on-the-ground experiences of over 25,000 riders worldwide! The result is over 8000 individual routes chosen by motorcyclists, for motorcyclists, and many of them include photos, video, and even reviews from other riders.
Rever: Rever is a cool new community based route and ride planner that helps you discover new rides and share your own in a fun, engaging way. You can record your own rides with key stats like time, distance, average speed, elevation, and more, then share it with others in the Rever community. You can even link up with other riders to find or create group rides in a snap! For more fun, you can complete challenges and unlock awards by riding more, and it also gives you the much-needed ability to cache maps onto your phone to refer to when you lose your signal – which happens to use riders all the time!
Dark Sky: Dark Sky is the most accurate source of hyperlocal weather information, You'll know exactly when the rain will start or stop, right where you are standing or riding.
SpeakerBoost: Have you ever been out on a ride and had your phone connected to the Bluetooth system speakers in your helmet, but with all the wind and motorcycle noise you just couldn’t hear it? What you need is a way to crank that volume up even louder than factory, and SpeakerBoost is it; it allows you to boost sound beyond the preprogrammed limits in your phone, so you can blast sound when you need it most. Careful though; blown speakers and headphones have been reported, because this app is powerful! (Android only.)
CRADAR: This is a crash detection app that uses the accelerometer in your phone to detect a crash, and sends a text message with your exact coordinates to an emergency contact or contacts, along with a route they can use to get to you. Great for not only motorcycle riders, but cyclists, runners, and hikers too! (Android only.)
FuelLog: FuelLog is an app to keep track of fuel consumption, vehicle maintenance, and costs, and automatically calculates useful stats like fuel mileage. But it goes even deeper than that; FuelLog can also figure out average cost per distance or gas amount, fuel cost per month or year, total distances driven, and more! Whether you own a fleet of business vehicles or just want to see what kind of mileage your bike is getting after a carb tuning, this app will do the trick. (Android only.)
Eat Sleep Ride: If you’re looking for one app tailored specifically toward motorcycle riders that can “do it all,” this is the one. After years of other apps being developed for various other aspects of riding, like route sharing and planning, ride replay, group ride tracking, and so on, Eat Sleep Ride took all the most in-demand features of all of them and made one “suite” just for riders.

Eat Sleep Ride has an awesome user interface and a whole host of features that are perfect for motorcycling, like being able to track, save, and share your rides, Replaying your rides with speed, elevation, and lean angle, allowing you to discover new routes submitted by other users, and more.

But the coolest feature of Eat Sleep Ride is probably CRASHLIGHT, a feature that uses your accelerometer to detect a motorcycle crash, and automatically sends an emergency alert to your pre-selected contacts along with your exact location if you don’t deactivate it within a small time window after the crash. CRASHLIGHT alone is reason enough to get Eat Sleep Ride, and riders with concerned loved ones will really love the peace of mind this gives them! (iOS and Android.) The CRASHLIGHT feature is 14.99 a year.

Be vigilant and careful

I know by experience. I was lucky enough to walk away from an accident at an early age when first starting out on 2 wheels as a teenager. I spent a week in the hospital, and was fortunate to be able to ride again.

I've been riding for over 41 years, from small starter bikes, large cruisers, top of the line sport bike (ZX14, dual NOS), and now my Indian Chieftain. I make a great effort to stay focused and always look ahead and over the hill, and always watch out for the other drivers. It's not, if it's going to happen, it's when it's going to happen.
